Pet-Friendly Restaurants in Bellingham, WA

February 10, 2025
Draft · for Derek

Bellingham is a dog town. They are on every trail and under a good share of the picnic tables, and if you have one you work out pretty fast which places are glad to see you both. These are the dog friendly restaurants in Bellingham that we would point a friend toward, which in practice means breweries, a bottle shop, a seafood place, Mexican, coffee and Italian.

Places change their patio and pet rules, so call ahead before you bring the dog. Everywhere on this list, pet friendly means the outdoor seating and not the dining room, which also means this is a better list in July than in January.

1. Boundary Bay Brewery

For years this was the first answer anybody in town would give you. The beer garden on Railroad Avenue was big, there was room for a dog to stretch out under the table, and on a sunny day there was usually live music and what felt like half of Bellingham. The food was pub food (fish and chips, burgers, salads) and the beer was the reason people knew the name.

Boundary Bay closed the Railroad Avenue brewery and beer garden in the fall of 2025. We have left it on the list because people still come looking for it, and because a list like this feels wrong without it. Check what the brewery is doing now before you make a plan around it.

2. Wander Brewing

Wander has a relaxed beer garden with picnic tables, and dogs are welcome out there. The beer is very good and there is a wide range of it, so the person in your group who does not want an IPA will still find something. There is often a food truck on site, which takes care of dinner. It is a good late-afternoon place, the kind where you stay longer than you planned.

3. Elizabeth Station

Elizabeth Station is a bottle shop and café with a very large selection of craft beer and cider. Dogs cannot come inside, but the outdoor seating is pet friendly, and on a sunny day it is a nice place to sit with a sandwich or a snack and whatever you picked out. Bring your own water bowl for the dog.

4. Web Locker

Web Locker is the seafood pick, down by Bellingham Bay, with outdoor seating where your dog can sit with you. It is a friendly, unfussy place, and the menu is what you would hope for that close to the water, things like fish tacos, clam chowder and crab cakes. Of everything on this list it is the one we would most want you to phone first, because we have not checked the patio arrangement ourselves in a while.

5. Lilia’s Mexican Cuisine

Lilia’s is family owned, and you can tell from the way you get treated. The outdoor seating is where dogs are welcome. The food is the familiar list of tacos, enchiladas and tamales, and they make their own salsas, so ask what they have that day. They also do margaritas, if somebody else is driving.

6. Woods Coffee

Woods is the local coffee chain. They roast their own, they have baked goods, and there are several locations around Bellingham with patios where a dog is fine. A few of them sit right next to trails and parks, which makes Woods the natural stop in the middle of a long walk. The one at Boulevard Park is on the water, and you can take your coffee out onto the boardwalk afterward.

7. Storia Cucina

Storia Cucina is downtown and it is the Italian option, with handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza and Italian-leaning cocktails. The outdoor seating takes dogs. It is the nicest sit-down meal on this list, so it is the one to pick when you want a proper dinner out and do not want to leave the dog at home to get it.

Where to walk first

A tired dog is a much better patio guest. Our guide to Bellingham’s parks covers where to wear one out, and we also have lists of local breweries and coffee shops if you want more options.

If you are moving here with a dog, tell us. Fenced yards, a trail you can reach without getting in the car, and condo pet rules all change which houses make sense, and they are easier to sort out at the start of a search than at the end. Get in touch when you are ready.
